The Head of Public Affairs will play a key role in the Corporate Communications team at ASOS. The successful candidate will be responsible for devising and driving ASOS’ Public Affairs programme, with agency support, and for building and maintaining strong relationships with key public affairs stakeholders in the UK and further afield, with a view to mitigating business risks and ensuring ASOS’ voice is heard in relevant discussions. The team The Corporate Comms & Events team at ASOS manages all internal communications, corporate communications, and internal and external business events at ASOS. This role sits within the dedicated Corporate Comms function, charged with reputation management and enhancement, and will work closely with the Corporate Communications Director and Corporate Communications Manager. You will be… Showcasing ASOS as a transparent, responsible and pragmatic business, pro-actively engaging with political and wider public affairs audiences to develop open and constructive dialogue; Consulting and engaging with key external stakeholders maintaining a measured, fact-based approach to conveying business priorities and strategies; Monitoring proceedings of the UK Parliament and global markets, providing analysis, forward planning, internal forecasting and solutions to upcoming events, changes in legislation or political topics; Creating and drafting written or oral communications for submissions to local, regional or national-level governments across the UK and internationally, regulatory bodies or external consultants; Broadening and deepening relationships with those influential voices to provide external credibility to ASOS and our business practices; Engaging with and introducing new public affairs audiences to ASOS’ corporate policies and practices; Managing and executing a stakeholder engagement programme, including identifying and building relationships with local, regional & national politicians and trade & industry bodies; Producing accessible and effective written briefings on complex topics for a variety of internal and external audiences; Representing the business at external meetings with political, public affairs and industry stakeholders; Planning and delivering public affairs events; Pro-actively identifying public affairs opportunities to engage with external stakeholders, and political horizon-scanning and monitoring; Advising the Executive Team and Board on public affairs issues and their implications; Working closely with the Corporate Communications Manager and Company Secretary team in coordinating the corporate reporting programme; Managing our public affairs agency. We’d love to meet, someone with… Experience of leading and delivering effective public affairs programmes, in-house, in agency or in an industry body setting. Knowledge of the retail/online industries. Ability to comprehend, explain and present complex policy issues. Excellent understanding of, and relationships with, Parliament, Whitehall, devolved governments, and politics in general. Significant experience of working with trade union and workforce stakeholders Commercial acumen – able to foresee the impact of political developments on the business and its policy positions. Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-moving and dynamic environment.
